Explore the French EPD database (INIES) using a simple, robust indicator
To help you understand the impact of your choice of materials, find our INIES Explorer in the Macro-Components Library. Using our Vizcab Environmental Performance Score for construction materials, identify the median carbon impact of different product families.
Navigate elegantly between the different categories and analyze the distribution of INIES records according to our performance index. In this way, you'll be able to find the most effective levers for achieving your objectives right from the start of your project.
The importance of an indicator for comparing carbon weights
- France's environmental regulations requires us to produce more studies in less time.
- 80% of a building's CO2 impact could be optimized by changing 20% of its components.
- This means being able to quickly compare and identify the most virtuous materials and products.
Application and usage examples
Design Offices
Quickly analyze the impact of a project and identify optimization levers.
Developers
In just a few clicks, you can carry out a quick counter-calculation of the studies delivered by your design engineers.
Technical controllers
Identify the robustness of a study and points for attention.
What is the Inies base?
The INIES database is the "French national reference database on environmental and health declarations for products, equipment and services used to assess the performance of structures". It contains all the data required for building LCA, and plays a crucial role in the methodology of the 2020 Environmental Regulations.
Created in 2004, this database is regularly updated by public authorities and the construction industry. The data it contains concerns construction products and building equipment:
What types of data are included in the INIES database?
There are three types of environmental data in the INIES database:
- Individual environmental data, corresponding to one or a few product references from a particular manufacturer.
- Collective environmental data, corresponding to a set of references for a type of product or equipment, declared by groups or unions of manufacturers.
- Default environmental data (DED), corresponding to data supplied by the Ministry to ensure the database is complete. To encourage the creation of specific data, impacts are greatly increased.
Difference between the Inies base and Explo Score
Explo Score is a dashboard that allows you to preview the environmental data in the INIES database, to understand the distribution of the environmental impacts of construction projects between the different families of materials, and to identify the median impact of products within the same category.
It's a feature of the Vizcab library that saves you time and money when using the INIES database, so you can make the right choices right from the start.
The Vizcab Score calculation method in detail
It was developed by Vizcab researchers, who have published over 50 scientific papers on the carbon footprint of products and buildings. It has also been the subject of a scientific publication presented at the SBE-22 international conference in Berlin to a community of experts from various European markets.
