Did you know?

The building sector accounts for 40% of CO2 emissions when all three scopes are taken into account. In a context of climate crisis, this expenditure has become a key factor in reducing France's greenhouse gas emissions

our mission

Decarbonization, a crucial challenge for the building industry

The building sector currently accounts for 38% of the world's energy-related CO2 emissions, with a weekly construction output equivalent to the size of Paris. Despite this, the sustainability of new housing, offices and facilities remains insufficiently assessed, accounting for less than 1% of cases worldwide.

Housing-related energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions have continued to rise through 2019, with trends little impacted by the global pandemic.

With the world's population expected to grow by 2 billion by 2050,new buildings will have a significant impact on energy consumption and CO2 emissions, particularly in emerging markets where building standards are less stringent.

This will also lead to a significant increase in raw materials consumption, largely attributable to the construction sector.

our mission

Making complex phenomena understandable

Our challenge is to make the power of Building Lifecycle Analyses accessible to construction and real estate professionals.
Thanks to technologies linked to data science and Artificial Intelligence, we can help your company become carbon neutral by 2050.

The Vizcab patent

As part of his research and teaching at EPFL Lausanne, Thomas Jusselme has published a method for creating technical design solutions that meet specific performance objectives for a building. The method involves selecting a design model and parameters from databases, generating design alternatives, evaluating their impact on building performance from another database, and finally ranking the design parameters according to their contribution to performance.

This has been enshrined in a patent held by EPFL, which Vizcab has exclusive rights to use.

Thomas Jusselme

Thomas Jusselme is co-founder of Vizcab. With a strong attachment to nature and a keen interest in environmental protection, and close ties with the wood industry, he trained as an environmental engineer, then went on to specialize in industrial design with a Master's degree from the Université Technologique de Compiègne. It was during a long trip to 25 countries in the company of Guillaume Lafont, to discover best practices in sustainable construction, that Thomas found his calling. After several entrepreneurial adventures, Thomas and Guillaume co-founded Vizcab in 2015.

In parallel with his role at Vizcab, Thomas is very much involved in academia. In 2008, he began a parallel teaching/research activity at ENSAG in the Constructive Cultures laboratory, then at ENSAL and finally at EPFL between 2014 and 2020, where he directs the Building2050 research program. He obtained a PhD from EPFL in Architecture and Urban Sciences in 2020 with a thesis entitled "Development of an LCA-based data-driven method for low carbon buildings at early design stages". Since 2019, he has been Professor of Building Energy Efficiency at HEIA Fribourg and at the Smart Living Lab. His research work has led to the publication of over sixty scientific articles and books.

Guillaume Lafont

Guillaume Lafont is co-founder and Managing Director of Vizcab. With a dual engineering and entrepreneurial background (environmental engineering Lyon 1 and EM Lyon), he joined forces with Thomas Jusselme in 2006 to structure the launch and development of exndo architectures and Milieu Studio, an engineering firm specializing in eco-design and building physics.

In 2015, together with Thomas Jusselme and Michel Forgue (one of France's most recognized experts in construction economics), he set up the web platform Vizcab.io, to help construction and real estate players accelerate the carbon transition of their projects at the best construction cost.

"Our ambition is to enable all players in the construction industry - developers, promoters, architects, economists, design offices and manufacturers - to get to grips with carbon data and make informed decisions on this vital real estate issue.
