Vizcab accelerates the building industry's carbon transition
Pioneering French tech start-up, seeking to accelerate the carbon transition of the construction industry

A multidisciplinary team of over 50 talents committed to decarbonizing construction
Founded by Guillaume and Thomas, the Vizcab start-up is represented by LCA experts to answer your questions on a daily basis and accelerate your carbon transition, a web development team dedicated to the continuous improvement of our platform, and Saas product specialists to ensure an intuitive interface and interoperability with your business tools.

The Vizcab patent
As part of his research and teaching at EPFL Lausanne, Thomas Jusselme has published a method for creating technical design solutions that meet specific performance objectives for a building. The method involves selecting a design model and parameters from databases, generating design alternatives, evaluating their impact on building performance from another database, and finally ranking the design parameters according to their contribution to performance.
This has been enshrined in a patent held by EPFL, which Vizcab has exclusive rights to use.
The founders

Thomas Jusselme
Thomas Jusselme, co-founder of Vizcab, is an environmental engineer with a passion for nature and sustainable construction. After earning a Master’s in Industrial Design from Université Technologique de Compiègne, he traveled across 25 countries with Guillaume Lafont to explore best practices in sustainable building. This journey inspired them to co-found Vizcab in 2015.
Alongside his work at Vizcab, Thomas has been deeply involved in academia. He has taught and conducted research at ENSAG, ENSAL, and EPFL, where he led the Building2050 research program. He earned a PhD from EPFL in 2020, focusing on LCA-based methods for low-carbon buildings. Since 2019, he has been a Professor of Building Energy Efficiency at HEIA Fribourg and the Smart Living Lab, with over 60 scientific publications to his name.

Guillaume Lafont
Guillaume Lafont, co-founder and Managing Director of Vizcab, has a dual background in engineering (environmental engineering at Lyon 1) and entrepreneurship (EM Lyon). He partnered with Thomas Jusselme in 2006 to launch exndo architectures and Milieu Studio, an engineering firm specializing in eco-design and building physics.
In 2015, alongside Thomas Jusselme and Michel Forgue, he co-founded Vizcab.io to help construction and real estate professionals accelerate their carbon transition while optimizing costs. His vision is to empower industry players—developers, architects, and manufacturers—to leverage carbon data for better decision-making.
We believe that digital technology and data science have the potential to catalyse the energy-carbon transition in the building industry, making it profitable for the whole sector

Discover our history through these key periods

Announced at SIBCA 2024, Vizcab's mission is to accelerate the carbon transition in the building sector.
Believing that this journey must be a collective one, we're launching the Vizcab Campus —
a free version of our platform to help you understand, explore, and act on carbon data.

The Excel Add-In is the fastest, simplest, and most user-friendly solution to assess the carbon impact of building materials and construction projects.
Why? Because it’s the first LCA tool for construction built directly into Excel.
Available for free in France and internationally, it allows you to:
Quickly assess the carbon footprint of construction products
Easily integrate LCA into your daily workflow
Seamlessly link EPDs (FDES) to quantity take-offs and cost estimates
The European regulatory framework is tightening with the EPBD, CSRD, and EU Taxonomy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
In response to these growing challenges, Vizcab is establishing itself as the leading solution for carbon accounting in the building sector, and as a key tool for collaboration and sustainable design.
Vizcab’s international expansion aims to support the sector in reducing its emissions by ensuring carbon budget compliance from the earliest planning phases.
Thomas Jusselme and Guillaume Lafont, co-founders and co-CEOs, explain:
“Buildings account for 37% of global emissions, with 90% linked to materials. Vizcab supports construction stakeholders in managing these impacts, strengthening connections with the digital ecosystem, and accelerating its global development.”

This additional investment gives a further boost to Vizcab’s international growth.
Vizcab welcomes Brick & Mortar Ventures and Global Brain Corporation to its cap table, joining existing Series A investors KOMPAS VC, Rise PropTech Fund, Cemex Ventures, and Altur Investissement, alongside Vizcab’s historic backers: noa and Banque des Territoires (Groupe Caisse des Dépôts).

Vizcab is a WINNER of the world's largest startup challenge in the construction sector.
We are proud to be among the #BuildersOfTheFuture — driving change and leading the way for the industry's transformation.
🏆 Follow our journey as we aim for gold at Pitch Day, taking place on November 7 at the Users Conference.

Vizcab originates from a technology transfer out of the EPFL Building 2050 research group, led by our co-founder Thomas Jusselme and hosted at the Smart Living Lab.
We thank the project team — including Human-IST UNIFR, EPFL, and EPFL-ECAL Lab — and in particular Prof. Lalanne and Dr. Tuor, for their contributions to the data visualization work carried out at EPFL.
Their input was a key inspiration for the design of the Vizcab interface.
We are also proud to have received support from the French Investment for the Future Program (Programme d’Investissements d’Avenir).
Finally, we joined UR Link, the Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield incubator, where we developed the MVP of Vizcab.
